Nutrition Service Delivery in District Jacobabad-Uncovered Area

PEI's initiative in District Jacobabad-Uncovered Area focuses on reducing stunting and malnutrition through the engagement of Community Health Workers (CHWs). Working closely with various sectors and partners, including Local Health Workers (LHWs), the District Nutrition Committee, PPHI, and sectors such as Health, WASH, and Agriculture, PEI aims to enhance nutrition outcomes. The project includes capacity-building activities for Community-Based Organizations (CBOs), parent groups, and CHWs. It facilitates referrals to nutrition facilities and promotes breastfeeding and complementary feeding practices through collaborations with Mother Support Groups, Traditional Birth Attendants (TBAs), Community Midwives (CMWs), and school teachers. Activities such as cooking demonstrations and sessions on healthy foods are conducted to disseminate nutrition, hand washing, hygiene, and deworming messages effectively.

Establishment of Nutrition Stabilization Centre

PEI has established and operates a Nutrition Stabilization Centre (NSC) at the Sindh Government Children Hospital in collaboration with WHO. The NSC serves as a critical facility for the treatment of Severe Acute Malnutrition (SAM) and Moderate Acute Malnutrition (MAM) among children. Through this center, PEI provides essential medical care, therapeutic feeding, and nutritional support to children suffering from acute malnutrition. The initiative aims to improve health outcomes and reduce mortality rates among malnourished children in the region, demonstrating PEI's commitment to addressing nutritional challenges through specialized care and international partnerships.
